Welcome to the website of SACIT Steel Advisory Centre Ltd.!SACIT Steel Advisory Centre Ltd. was founded in its current form 22 years ago. It has existed since 1986 as a Society of Computerised Steel Advisory Services, but was transformed to a limited liability company in 1989 according to the then new Hungarian Law on Business Associations. Today SACIT is a Hungarian-German joint venture, its owners being two private individuals and a German private company. The majority of our customers are from the steel industry, steel trading, machine-making industries, chemical industries, heat treatment workshops, maintenance workshops, colleges and universities. They come from all geographical areas of the world, most of them being Hungarian, but with an ever growing proportion of customers from France, Sweden, USA, Argentina, Italy, Poland, Germany, Austria and India. Again, welcome to the website of the 22 year old SACIT Ltd!
Best regards, Dr. Szilvia SOMOGYI For over 20 years our efforts have been there to help our clients make simpler and faster decisions on the selection of steel and other materials, even in the We also consider part of our mission the education of young engineering generations, and the preservation of intellectual products on steel research generated at universities and research institutions.
The legal predecessor of SACIT (Steel Advisory Centre for Industrial Technologies) was founded in 1986, by experts of Iron and Steel Research and It’s a well-known fact that steel is one of our most important structural materials, and probably it will keep its status for many decades, since its mechanical and other properties can be set within very wide limits. These properties can be adjusted by the chemical composition, and the heat treatment procedure, that is why the number of the standardised and company-developed steel grades are almost unlimited. Beyond these facts the energy consumption in order to achieve these mechanical and physical properties is much less in comparison to other materials. Worldwide R&D activity focuses on finding the proper steel grade and heat treatment technology for specific applications. EQUIST Expert System is an aid in the selection of the optimal material, on the basis of the millions of data stored in its database. It is always recommended to choose a cheaper, lower alloyed steel grade, which can be produced using less energy by modern, controlled technology, and which meets all the prescribed properties. It is a very sophisticated task, to find the optimal steel degree and heat treatment technology for all parts of a machine. To find the most economic steel-alloy and heat treatment is a tough procedure that is almost impossible carried out manually. Nowadays the demand of designers, steel producers, steel traders, and the steel processing industry can not be satisfied without a quick and reliable search engine. That is why EQUIST Weld - as the Partner of Solid Edge - gives you the best solution with real chances in choosing the best solution in steel selection, both technically and economically. See also: Solid Edge Interface >>> THE HISTORY OF EQUIST IN A NUTSHELLThe ancestor of EQUIST was born more than 25 years ago, on a HP-85 microcomputer. Our colleagues had the task of answering incoming "steel advisory" requests. This demanded hour-long datamining in library guides and catalogues, which was extremely time consuming. An unexpected meeting with a couple of librarians and programmers, who were working on digitalizing library catalogues, has resulted in the development of the first professional EQUIST version, EQUIST 1.0. At those times this was the first and only factographic database available in Hungary. Version 1.0 contained the basic data and chemical composition of about 2.500 steel grades, and ran on the MS-DOS operating system. Thanks to the work of software engineers at InfoKer, and later Arcanum the database management program behind EQUIST developed continuously. At the same time, the database improved by the addition of newer and newer ideas, more and more practical information on the designations. The spread of Windows-based machines has meant a great breakthrough, and since then EQUIST has also undergone a whole series of changes. Windows-based versions were released frequently: EQUIST 98, EQUIST 2000, EQUIST 2001, EQUIST Silver, EQUIST Gold, Platinum and finally the current version, EQUIST Weld. Throughout its development, the basic information in the database was augmented by information on technological, mechanical, physical properties, textual information on steels. Latest versions include weldability information and a corrosion database. EQUIST was first translated into four languages, and is currently available in six (Hungarian, English, German, French, Polish and Italian). Our plans for the next release are laid down, and we're looking to meet the challenges of responding to new demands! BECAUSE EQUIST IS OUR PASSION! |
